Got Friends has re-announced their F4F Wildcat for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The development group was previously already working on this aircraft, all the way back in 2021. There was even a trailer for the airplane at the time. Unfortunately the team ran into development issues and the plane took a place on the back burner.
The re-announcement of the aircraft was made by developer ‘DigitalJonx‘ over on the MSFS forums, stating that “it’s time”. Alongside the announcement came a few small previews and a little bit of info sprinkled throughout the forum thread. Got Friends plans on making the aircraft available for both PC and Xbox users. The team also wants to try to make the plane behave and feel authentic, such as simulating the cranking mechanism required to operate the landing gear. Luckily, for those that don’t feel like performing half a workout during their flight sim experience, the team is also looking into more ‘simplified’ control options to make it suit your needs and hardware better.

The Grumman F4F Wildcat was an American carrier-based fighter aircraft (also known as Martlet in the British Royal Navy). It was an effective and powerful aircraft that saw a lot of service during the early years of World War II. However, the F4F Wildcat was not able to keep up with the performance of its Japanese counterpart, the A6M Zero. The shortcomings of the F4F Wildcat were fixed in the F6F Hellcat, which was the most dominant fighter aircraft for the second part of the war.
